The Faculty of the Berkeley Linguistics Department issued a statement on the George Floyd killing.

We the faculty of the Department of Linguistics at UC Berkeley were appalled by the killing of George Floyd by the police, as well as the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black and brown people before them. We strongly support the protests against police violence, and to enact structural change in policing, and in systems of power and privilege which reinforce systemic racism more generally, including in our own community.
